Designer of the month [October]: Gilbert Stanley Underwood
A Yale and Harvard man, Gilbert Stanley Underwood became a Los Angles architect in1923. Some of his greatest works are Lodges build in the United States National Parks. Many consider his greatest masterpiece to be The Ahwahnee. Many of his buildings were constructed in the 1920s, but are conisderd Art Deco. Several of his projects used an interesting concrete staining process. Including The Awahnee, the clapboards are actually made of concrete, rather than wood. Underwood died in 1960 and witnessed an amazing time in design history.
